Gwyneth Paltrow's Tip For Dropping Holiday Pounds: Detox!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

While millions of Americans struggle to shed the holiday pounds, Gwyneth Paltrow is hoping to offer a helpful hint – detox.

"It is that time of year, folks. I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess. Anyone else?" Gwyneth wrote on her personal blog GOOP.

In her own efforts to drop some excess weight, Gwyneth said she has often turned to some intense methods.

"I like to do fasts and detoxes a couple of times during the year, the most hardcore one being the Master Cleanse I did last spring. It was not what you would characterize as pretty. Or easy. It did work, however," she continued.

Not wanting to survive on "lemon water in the middle of winter," the actress turned to her doctor, Dr. Alejandro Junger, who she described as a detox diet specialist, for "the guidelines he uses to achieve a good detox that is not as hallucinogenic (in a bad way) as the Master Cleanse."

"What it came down to was this: you can detox easily and effectively while you continue to eat as long as you are cutting out the foods and other substances that interfere with the detoxification process," she noted.

During her seven-day detox diet, Gwyneth said she will be cutting out dairy, grains with gluten, meat, shellfish, sugars, alcohol, caffeine, soda and certain vegetables, including potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.

Instead, the blonde beauty will be opting for a diet full of smoothies, good veggies, soups, fruit juice and a lot of water.

"I will be suffering along with you to kickstart my year a bit lighter," she wrote. "Good luck to us all!"
